Filing week is next week

Four County offices up for election

DAVENPORT — Lincoln County residents who are interested in running for open county government positions must file to do so next week. Filing week for the 2024 primary in August, which will advance finalists to the November general election, begins Monday, May 6 and ends Friday, May 10.

Four county positions are open this year, including County Commissioner District No. 1 (currently held by Jo Gilchrist), County Commissioner No. 2 (Scott Hutsell), Superior Court Judge (Jeff Barkdull) and P.U.D. Commissioner District No. 2 (Hal Johnson).

Thus far, Gilchrist has filed a campaign with the Public Disclosure Commission, as has current Prosecuting Attorney Adam Walser, who is expected to run for Superior Court Judge.

Additionally, all precinct committee officer openings are up for new filers.

Those who wish to file must pay a fee totaling 1% of the annual salary of the office they are filing for.

Filing occurs at the Auditor’s Office in the County Courthouse between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or via mail-ins, which must be received by the Auditor’s Office no later than 5 p.m. Friday, May 10, according to a release from the Office. The exception is for Superior Court Judge candidates, who must file with the Secretary of State’s office, according to the release.

All offices will be in the primary and general elections except Johnson’s P.U.D. position, which will only be in the primary if more than two candidates file.

If more than two candidates file for any of the offices, the top two vote-getters in the primary election will advance to the general.
