Transportation fund paying for new asphalt
REARDAN – The town is reaping the benefits of an $850,000 Washington Transportation Improvement Board grant to pave approximately 3.4 miles of roads within the town limits. Three cents of the statewide gas tax funded this and other TIB projects.
Tommer Construction Company was awarded the project and is applying an Otta seal surface, which is a cost-effective treatment that places gravel on top of a bituminous binding agent. Initially, it appears to be gravel until black oils work their way to the surface, creating the appearance of pavement.
Tommer began the project in mid-September and expects to finish within two weeks.
"People are so happy to see this happening," Town Clerk Celeste Lewis said. "This project will greatly reduce dust, eliminate potholes and give us smooth streets."
