Arrow M. Saddlery is now open
DAVENPORT - Arrow M. Saddlery, a new leather shop located at 505 1st Street, is now open in Davenport, offering custom leather goods, repair services, and a variety of Western-themed items.
The shop, owned and operated by 27-year-old Mackenzie Crable of Edwall, officially opened on Friday, October 13.
Crable, who has been crafting leatherwork for a decade, specializes in youth chaps, belts, accessories, home décor such as cowhide rugs and table runners, and functional gear for working cowboys.
"My love for the rodeo is what got me into leatherwork," said Crable. "I didn't grow up in a Western household, and I didn't have my own horse until I could afford one. My desire is what got me going. I just love to create something."
Crable, originally from Spokane, moved to Edwall after meeting her boyfriend. She is the mother of three children and says preserving the cowboy lifestyle fuels her work.
"I don't want the West to die," she said. "That's why I focus on encouraging kids to want to be cowboys and grow up loving it."
Arrow M. Saddlery also offers hands-on leather crafting classes that have quickly become popular in the community.
The next class, a table runner workshop, is scheduled for Thursday, February 15.
Participants will receive all materials and tools and will be guided step-by-step through the creative process.
"Classes are so fun and eye-opening," said Crable. "People feel so accomplished and are stoked to see how their projects come out. The hardest part is picking the materials-there are just so many choices."
The shop operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Visitors are asked to ring the doorbell upon arrival, as Crable often works on projects upstairs.
"I just love what I do," Crable said. "Being a part of the working cowboy's world by providing functioning gear means so much to me."
