Crews look to quick containment
REARDAN — A fast-moving wildfire has scorched hundreds of acres in Lincoln and Spokane counties near Ford, threatening homes and prompting evacuations.
The Crescent Road Fire ignited around 4 p.m. Wednesday in grass, timber and brush, fire officials said.
Structures are threatened, and Level 1, 2, and 3 evacuations are in effect. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“We haven’t even gotten into how it started yet. Containment numbers usually come later,” said Jim Adams, Lincoln County Fire District 4 chief. “Crews from Spokane and Lincoln County districts are on site working the fire. State mobilization went out around 7:30 p.m. [Wednesday, Aug. 13].”
Two wildland strike teams have reportedly been dispatched, and the State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is partially activated to help coordinate resources.
“The weather forecast is looking good overnight. Forward progress is slowing down. DNR has dozer lines down and crews are tying them into Devil’s,” Adams said. “Air support was used until sunset. With calmer winds, we expect lines to hold.”
By press time, the fire’s perimeter measured 778.9 acres. Containment efforts were ongoing, and status and containment levels had not yet been determined.
