Sturgeon fishing season set for Lake Roosevelt

More caught in northern third of lake

DAVENPORT - The sturgeon fishing season on Lake Roosevelt will open Sept. 16 and run through Nov. 30.

According to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, Lake Roosevelt, from Grand Coulee Dam to the Canadian border, offers fishermen a chance to target white sturgeon in one of the region's premier fisheries.

"The bulk of the sturgeon population occurs in the northern third of the lake from around Gifford upstream," state District No. 1 fish biologist Bill Baker said.

To harvest fish this year, they must be between 55 and 63 inches long from nose to fork, a change from the previous 53-to-63-...
