Hometown spirit takes center stage

Community traditions return in force

HARRINGTON — Pancakes, parades and plenty of small-town charm are on tap this weekend as Harrington hosts its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27.

The celebration kicks off early with the FFA Pancake Feed at Memorial Hall from 8 to 10 a.m. and continues with a parade at 11 a.m., followed by an afternoon packed with activities. Highlights include the Huff N Puff Fun Run at 9 a.m., an alumni gathering at noon, and kids’ carnival games beginning at 12:30 p.m. Vendors and the Lions Club barbecue will run through the afternoon, while bingo and raffle drawings round out the day.

Around town, visitors can stop by the Opera House for rummage sales and tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., check out the library book sale, or browse local businesses such as Harrington Foods, the Mercantile and Home & Makers.

Meanwhile, the Almira Country Fair will draw crowds with its own slate of festivities, beginning Friday evening, Sept. 26, with a community cook-off and bingo. Saturday events include a 10 a.m. parade, car show, bouncy castle, climbing wall, and 4-H chicken “poo-lette.” Food options will feature a pancake breakfast, barbecue pulled pork, burgers, and more.

Both events promise a full weekend of community connection and fall fun.
