Study to provide insight into sleep apnea
ODESSA — Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center has added sleep medicine services through a new partnership with Rural Sleep Solutions, expanding local access to testing and treatment for sleep disorders, including sleep apnea.
Dr. Jakdej “Jak” Nikomborirak, with more than 25 years of experience in sleep medicine and having served as a medical director at several Washington hospitals, will oversee the program. Jon Hoffman, a sleep technician with nearly a decade of experience, will conduct overnight sleep studies at OMHC.
OMHC staff have notified referral coordinators and managers at Samaritan, Providence, Lincoln Hospital, East Adams, and Columbia Basin that both in-home and in-lab sleep testing are now available in Odessa.
Medicare patients must receive a referral from their primary care provider before scheduling a sleep study. Patients not on Medicare may contact the clinic directly for an assessment to determine whether a home sleep test is appropriate.
If a home sleep test indicates the need for further evaluation, patients may then undergo an in-center sleep study at OMHC, where they are monitored overnight by a technician. Patients referred from outside Odessa may complete follow-up care with their original provider.
Hospital officials said the program is part of an ongoing effort to increase specialty care options within the community.
