DAVENPORT - Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes are now rolling out in an unlikely spot in this Lincoln County town: the basement of a local church.
Michael Mathison, a former Navy submariner from Medical Lake and husband of Davenport native Jessica Mathison, launched Armored Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at First Presbyterian Church on Morgan Street.
Mathison discovered the sport while stationed in Guam, where limited options led him to train under an affiliate of a prominent gym.
