Meth case trial date set
Davenport - The most recent court activity in a Lincoln County drug case advanced Tuesday as a Superior Court judge set a new trial date during a status conference.
Lincoln County Superior Court Judge Adam Walser said the court received a letter that resulted in changes to the case, including a change in defense counsel. Victoria Iverson took over representation after Dave Hearrean removed himself from the case.
The deputy prosecuting attorney Bruce Cox said the trial is expected to take one day. Walser set the trial for Tuesday, March 25, with responses due by Wednesday, Feb. 26.
"I know you want to see this go to trial," Walser said. "The court wants to see some resolution, too."
David Randall Priest, 57, of Davenport, is charged with possession of methamphetamine and other controlled substances with intent to distribute. He appeared in Lincoln County Superior Court on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
According to court documents, Lincoln County deputies reported observing a vehicle traveling erratically on State Route 2. When deputies attempted to make contact, the vehicle struck a patrol car, records show. Priest was arrested after deputies reported signs of impairment.
During a search of the vehicle, deputies reported finding suspected methamphetamine and other controlled substances, along with digital scales, drug packaging materials and glass smoking devices. Court records also note the presence of items consistent with drug distribution.
Washington State Patrol assisted with the collision and DUI investigation.
Odessa assault trial set
Davenport - An Odessa man charged with assault and property damage will face trial in April following a Superior Court hearing Tuesday.
Jacob Michael Bergstrom, 34, of Odessa, is charged with second-degree assault by strangulation and second-degree malicious mischief involving damage exceeding $750.
During the hearing, Bergstrom's public defender, Dave Hearrean, recommended waiving the right to a speedy trial. The court set the trial for Tuesday, April 15, with a readiness hearing scheduled for Monday, March 24.
According to the probable cause statement, Lincoln County deputies responded at about 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 22, to a South Division Street residence after a female caller reported an assault and then hung up.
