Council backs float build, duo abstains over ties

DAVENPORT — Boosting local parades with lodging tax dollars, the Davenport City Council approved a $3,000 tourism grant Wednesday for float construction, emphasizing accountability amid state reporting requirements.

The funds, via Resolution 2026-04, support the nonprofit Celebrate Davenport for materials and insurance. Council members Lance Strite and Michael Strite abstained, noting their wives’ committee ties.
