Assault reported with conflicting accounts

HARRINGTON — A physical altercation between a Harrington man and a Davenport-area woman left both parties injured Saturday evening, according to Lincoln County sheriff’s office records.

Deputies responded to a report of an assault at 10 N First St. around 9:26 p.m. The incident stemmed from a dispute over mechanic work Bret Howard Bradley had performed on Amanda Lynn Dinwiddie’s vehicle after she hit a deer. Dinwiddie had returned to Bradley’s property because she was experiencing ongoing issues with the vehicle, records show.

According to Dinwiddie’s account to deputies, she was sitting in her vehicle when Bradley grabbed her hair bun twice and made a crude comment about her hair. She said he also touched a piercing on her face. When she threatened to punch him if he did not stop, Bradley began recording her with his phone. She said she knocked the phone into her car, after which Bradley reached through the window, grabbed her ignition key (bending it in the process), opened the door, and took her cigarettes as payment. She said she tried to retrieve her cigarettes, leading to a struggle during which Bradley punched her approximately 25 times. Dinwiddie had visible blood and marks on the left side of her face and a bump on the back of her head. She later returned to the property with her mother to retrieve dropped sunglasses.

Bradley told deputies that Dinwiddie became demanding about additional work on her vehicle and refused to leave his property despite multiple requests. He said she got out of her car and began hitting him. Bradley stated he defended himself by pushing her away and eventually striking her. He showed deputies a short video clip in which Dinwiddie appears to strike him twice in the head and face area. Bradley had blood on his finger and kitchen floor from the incident. He noted that his property is posted with “No Trespassing” signs, according to sheriff’s records.

Both parties appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during their separate interviews with deputies. There were no independent witnesses to the altercation. The short video shown to deputies captured only a portion of the incident and did not show the events inside or immediately around the vehicle.

Deputies documented injuries to both individuals and forwarded the reports to the Lincoln County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Dinwiddie was advised of her option to seek an anti-harassment or protection order through the court.
