Dog attack raises summer safety fears

DAVENPORT - Families with young children in one Davenport neighborhood are feeling uneasy this summer after a large dog attacked a resident and has shown aggressive behavior near the city pool.

Shanell Stewart, 35, told the City Council on June 24 that she was attacked by her neighbor's roughly 130-pound German Shepherd at the intersection of 6th and Merriam. She suffered a broken toe in the incident. Her children were present and are now afraid to play outside on that side of their property.
