Derby set for Friday at 7 a.m.

DAVENPORT - Young anglers will cast their lines into Cottonwood Creek at Davenport Park this Friday as the Davenport Lions Club hosts its 19th annual Kids Fishing Derby.
Bob Guhlke, 80, a Davenport Lions Club member and derby organizer, said volunteers recently cleared limbs, aquatic growth and garbage from the creek so children can fish without getting tangled or discouraged.
"We pulled a lot of garbage out so the kids don't get tangled up in the weeds and get discouraged," Guhlke said. "We want them to be happy and catch a lot of fish."
