Creek filled with 500 rainbow trout
A large crowd gathers along the rails at Cottonwood Creek right at 7 a.m. to fish during the Kids Fishing Derby on Friday.
DAVENPORT - Nearly 200 children cast lines Friday, July 17, at Davenport Park's Cottonwood Creek for the 19th annual Kids Fishing Derby, a record turnout for the Pioneer Days event hosted by the Davenport Lions Club.
The creek was stocked earlier in the week with 500 trout by the Spokane Tribe Hatchery in Ford. Every participant received a hat and goody bag, and some fish were tagged for prizes that included fishing poles and tackle boxes.
