On Saturday, February 28, Odessa’s Knowledge Bowl team came away from the regional competition held at Whitworth University in Spokane with a second-place finish which qualifies them to go to the state competition. Linda Kay Burghard died February 19, 2015, due to complications of a severe stroke. She was born December 15, 1944, to Harvey and Ulla Haase in Ritzville. She worked as a caregiver for Shirley Libsack for approximately four years. After that she managed a Sears Outlet store combined with Lyndie’s Ceramics. She enjoyed creating pieces and helping others. After closing the Sears Outlet and Lyndie’s, she worked as the clerk/treasurer for the Town of Odessa until she retired in December of 2013. Leroy Kuest, a native of Odessa, died Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Rockwood at Hawthorne care center. Born in Odessa on August 25, 1918, he was the last of seven children of Julius and Rosena Kuest, who had homesteaded in the area before 1900. Leroy graduated from Odessa High School, worked for the local Richfield service station and in 1942 joined the U.S. Air Force. The Odessa Lions Club is in the midst of its latest community service project, refurbishment of the public restroom located on the west side of the public works building and across W. First Street from the community center. Club members are volunteering their time to repair water damage, install new flooring and fixtures and paint the interior. William L. (Bill) Myers (79) died February 14, 2015. He was born in Port Townsend, Wash., where he lived until his retirement from the Port Townsend Fire Department in 1981.
