    OLYMPIA – Attorney General Bob Ferguson has joined a federal lawsuit demanding that Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt complete a scientific safety review of the neurotoxic pesticide chlorpyrifos. Pruitt abruptly halted a review already underway earlier this year. According to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, the EPA can allow the continued use of a pesticide at certain levels only if it finds that pesticide to be safe.     GRANT COUNTY, WA – Grant County Health District staff are investigating 12 confirmed cases of pertussis (whooping cough), with additional tests pending. All confirmed cases are within the Ephrata and Moses Lake communities. None of the cases have been hospitalized. There is the potential for more cases to occur.     Independence Day in Odessa was a relatively calm and quiet affair, with only a few evening fireworks disturbing the peaceful, small-town atmosphere that prevailed most of the day.     Noxious weeds on lots within the town limits need to sprayed or hoed out to keep them from spreading. Koshia in particular is growing like crazy right now, and this is a good time to take care of it. The Town of Odessa has an enforceable ordinance mandating that property owners rid their land of noxious plants.
