Foundation buys portable X-ray unit

Members of the Odessa Healthcare Foundation met with Drex Palmer, ART, Radiology Department Director, who showed them the portable X-ray machine that the foundation purchased for Odessa Memorial Hospital with the proceeds of the 2015 Wine Tasting and Auction event.

The portable X-ray unit is used when patients cannot or should not be moved to the radiology room due to their clinical condition. Instead, the X-ray machine comes to the patient. While the images of a stationary unit are preferred to those of a portable unit, the portable unit is necessary and helpful in times of severe injury or inability to transfer a patient to the X-ray table for various reasons. It can also be used during power outages, when the main radiology unit is not available. Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center is happy to have this generous gift from the foundation for our patients.
