Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
The Desert 100 off-road motorcycle endurance race may have been the largest ever judging from the size of the campsite at the corner of Irby Road and SR 28. Configured like a giant "L" the site certainly covered more ground than we had seen before at prior races.
The official results are still being tabulated and finalized and will be posted on the website of the Stumpjumpers Motorcycle Club as soon as possible.
As for how the Odessa vendors did, information is still being gathered by The Record's staff and will be provided as it becomes available. As expected, in-town businesses like Odessa Drive-In, Odessa Foods and Odessa Drug did a booming business. In fact, Odessa Drug stayed open until 5:30 p.m. Saturday instead of closing at its normal time of 2 p.m. Napa Auto Parts closed its doors at 2 p.m., which was rather surprising given the number of vehicles passing through town. But it may be that the racing crowd was already well supplied with spare parts or had access to a parts supplier at the race site.
More on the weekend's events next week.
