Harrington Chamber discuss car show

HARRINGTON – The Harrington Area Chamber of Commerce met Feb. 5 to discuss Cruizin’ Harrington car show and related activities the third weekend of May.

Vice President Cade Clarke presided over the meeting; attendees were Paula Harrington, Heather Slack, Jill Barth, Cindy Haase, Amber Zagwell, Tyler James and Karen Robertson.

During the discussion, the chamber noted a quilt show in the Opera House will be a part of this year’s upcoming event. And the Studebaker Garage will offer a barbecue dinner with Harrington Homemakers selling pies.

This year will also include a People’s Choice award for entrants, a beard competition and a street dance from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, May 15, with D.J. Tyler James.

Vendors are being organized the chamber learned.

The Welcoming Committee discussed possibilities for embroidered tote bags loaded with gifts or gift certificates, a post card to respond to the chamber and a city directory.

In other business, chamber members discussed the Town Square Project.

To date, $47,986 has been raised in addition to $30,000 in matching funds from Innovia.

Paver bricks are being completed and are still available for purchase, organizers said.

When spring arrives, the bricks can be installed, and the grain silo roof can be brought to the site.

The project includes moving one of the stone pillars that originally marked the town entrance from North Central Highway will be moved as part of the project, organizers said.

Members also discussed funding to add a restroom to the project.
