The trapshoot held in Odessa Saturday as part of the Spring Fling activities was an Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA)sanctioned event. Nine teams were drawn to town on a day when rain threatened but never developed and wind was a constant bother. Odessa Gun Club member Landon Lobe told The Record that 13 or 14 teams would have been optimum in terms of having the local club make a little income, but he was happy nonetheless that those who turned out were having a good time. The Odessa High School FFA chapter sold...

“You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take.” - Wayne Gretzky From the ordering take-out, to choosing a baby name, we have all come to a point in our lives when we have been faced with a choice. I have seen too many people always choosing the same thing, the same methods, the same path they travel every time. It pains me to see so few people who are willing to try new things. One of these things is “the usual”. When I go out to eat or see a character on TV and they ask for “the usual”, it bothers me probably m...

“Without labor, neither knowledge nor wisdom can accomplish much.” -FFA opening ceremonies, Advisor In my pursuit of happiness I have found that, in great part, the aspect of that pursuit which has brought the most toil, yet by far the most satisfaction, is the collection of knowledge. Within every category of knowledge, there is so much to be known that there never will be a single being alive who can acquire every bit of fact about it. Thus, knowledge is never-ending. We can know nothing, yet we can never know everything. W...

lunteers are the heartbeat of our community. These unsung heroes just show up to help and assist with all of the various behind-the-scenes activities that we so often take for granted. In a perfect world, lots of people would all help out a little. But we all know that in the real world it doesn't work that way. Especially in small towns, a small core group of familiar faces do 90 percent of the work. Justin Parr is one of those people. At Saturday night's New Years Eve Chamber party he was bestowed with the award for...

For someone who will be 27 this month (August 28), Marcus Horak is truly an “old” soul. He is a kind, quiet, introspective guy…shy in some respects. Although imposing at 6’4” tall with a size 17 boot, he is a gentle, compassionate and caring guy. There to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it, he admittedly has an issue saying “no” to anyone. This might account for why Marcus is currently on the school board, an EMT, a Freemason, a lifetime FFA alumni member, Chamb...
