The Odessa varsity boys basketball team is headed to the state tournament after winning second place at the District 7 tournament in Deer Park last weekend (see full story on page 5). Rea Claudine (Dobson/Lyons) West loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away February 2, 2018 at the Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata after a very brief illness at age 92. To the Editor: Here is another example of phone fraud: I received a call this week from someone claiming to be from Dish Network. He said they were sending me updated equipment and needed my credit card number as “insurance”. I have autopay, so I asked him to give me the last four digits of my number. He gave two sets of numbers neither of which were correct. When I told him I would not give him the number he abruptly hung up. Marlin Gun Club On February 18, 54 members of the Marlin Gun Club faced the bitter cold of 25 degrees with winds out of the NE at 30 mph and horizontal snow. Dorothy "Dot" Williams died January 27, 2018 in Spokane at the age of 87. She was born August 10, 1930 to Anthony and Anna (Scrupps) Groh in Odessa. She met and then married David G. Williams in 1948. They farmed for many years before retiring in Odessa. Dot was preceded in death by her husband David in 1998, a son Wesley David Willams in 1955 and one brother Anthony "Tony" Groh. Monday night’s meeting of the Odessa Town Council included a discussion of the recycling bins in town in which citizens are encouraged to deposit used cardboard, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and newspapers. The service was instituted several years ago when Odessa was still collecting and hauling its own waste. The tipping fees were based on the tonnage of waste delivered.
