Merlin Traylor was born on December 24, 1930 in Wessington Springs, South Dakota to Thomas and Kathryn Traylor. After Kathryn's death in 1935 his father moved the family first to Tacoma and then to Spokane. Merlin completed high school and then went on to Gonzaga University and Washington State University earning his degree in Zoology at the age of 19. The Lincoln County Relay for Life walk-a-thon was held in Davenport, starting on June 13 at 6 p.m. and continuing until 6 a.m. on June 14. The event was held at the Davenport High School track and field complex. Four employees of the Odessa School District retired at the end of the school year in early June. Together, the four of them put in over 100 years of service to the district and the community. Jackie Allington worked as a substitute teacher for the district from 1974 to l988. In August of 1987, she was hired as a home economics teacher at one-third of full time. Odessa's Aquatic Center, also known simply as 'the pool,' opened last week Tuesday to a cooling period of clouds and rain that kept attendance down somewhat. To the Editor: We are so happy to hear that others are concerned about the invasion of Odessa by feral populations of animals. If you want to enjoy your household pets, don’t let them run around outside at any time. Even in broad daylight, your much-loved kitty can become lunch for a coyote. Offering food to the wild animals makes the danger of attacks on domestic pets even greater. In our yard, we cannot grow many things because we are overrun by deer feeding at a neighbor’s “feeding station.” Isn’t this really a bit cruel...
The Harrington Opera House Society Rummage Room held its function on Tuesday, June 17, during the 11-4 p.m hours of the library's book sale. Considering it was on a weekday, there was a better than anticipated donation of about $160. Rain did not deter the treasure seekers.
