The 70th annual Turkey Carnival, sponsored by the Odessa Lions Club will be held this Saturday, November 19, at the community center. The kitchen will open at noon, serving burgers, drinks and pie. Bingo action for turkeys starts at 2 p.m. Tickets for raffle items will be drawn throughout the afternoon and evening. Patrons need not be present to win the raffle prizes. The fourth graders at P.C. Jantz Elementary School in Odessa attended this year’s Music Encounter at the Fox Theatre in Spokane. The Odessa-Harrington Titans girls volleyball team played some of the best volleyball of their season this past weekend in Yakima’s SunDome at the state volleyball tournament for 1B, 2B and 1A schools. Staff reports Quite a few veterans, along with families and friends, turned out for the annual Veterans Day dinner held at the VFW hall in Odessa. There were great plans 76 years ago in late November 1935, for the rabbit drive to be held in the Irby area, which was expected to draw hundreds of Spokane sportsmen. Sourdough waffles, there is nothing like them. For years, I had a wonderful sourdough starter that I kept going by using every couple of weeks. Due to not enough waffles, bread and biscuits being made, that starter died. When the latest Hospital Auxiliary cookbook came out I decided to try Pauline Schimke’s sourdough starter recipe. For three weeks in November 1909 Odessa fretted over an act of charity which was reported to be coming its way. The town of Palouse in Whitman County, according to Spokane newspapers, was sending a freight car loaded with fruits and vegetables for the farmers of the Odessa and Quincy areas. The 2011 State Land Judging Contest was hosted by the Lincoln County Conservation District on November 2 at the Keith and LeAnna Schafer farm on Highway 28 five miles west of Odessa. Margie R. O’Neal died November 2, 2011 at Lincoln Hospital in Davenport, surrounded by her children. Marge was born on September 4, 1939 in Irby to Charlie R. and Ruth (Kissler) Jeske. She was the second daughter, joining her sister Shirley Ann. Marge received her formal schooling at Odessa schools. She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church. The Odessa Cub Scouts of Pack #784 will once again be “Scouting for Food” this year. Over the past several years, the Cub Scouts have collected hundreds of pounds worth of food.
