  • Welcome to My Kitchen

    Laura Estes|Updated Nov 18, 2022

Thanksgiving menus are on the minds of many area cooks. Turkey, beef roast, ham, or a combination? What sides and desserts will fit in range and refrigerator space? What oven dishes will cook in the meat standing time? Fresh turkeys should be kept refrigerated until ready to use. If you are brining a turkey, keep the brining bird refrigerated. A frozen turkey will need to be thawed under refrigeration, beginning 4 to 5 days before use, depending on size. Be sure to put a pan...

  • Prepare your car for winter

    The Record-Times|Updated Nov 18, 2022

Summer and fall can stake their claim as road trip season, and even devoted drivers may admit that winter is generally a less desirable time to take to the open road. The elements factor heavily into that reputation, as fewer hours of daylight, snow and ice are just some of the variables that can make it less enjoyable, and potentially more dangerous, to drive in winter. In anticipation of adverse driving conditions, vehicle owners can take various steps to prepare their cars and trucks for winter. Upgrade your wiper blades....

The collection, numbering in the hundreds, is jaw-dropping, but discovering that Brommer created many of the pieces himself makes one realize they're in the presence of a master artisan. • Welcome to My Kitchen

    Laura Estes|Updated Oct 27, 2022

Casseroles are perfect for fall days. Fragrant and warm from the oven, they make for cozy evening meals. Casseroles that are quick to fix or easy to prepare ahead are a boon to area cooks. With some area eating establishments closing for the winter and others shutting down permanently, I have been getting requests for ideas of what to fix when you can’t fill in with take out. Cheeseburger Rice, a recipe I found on the Minute Rice box nearly 30 years ago, is one of my go to mai...

  • The purpose of worship

    Updated Oct 6, 2022

What is the purpose of a Christian worship service? It must seem a curious thing to see otherwise intelligent people foregoing the entertainment available on any given Sunday to gather with other like minded individuals for worship. The highest purpose of Christian worship is to receive the gifts God has promised in His Word to all who worship Him in Spirit and Truth. These gifts are received by faith which is one of the gifts given by God. Not earned, not worked or sacrificed for, but received from God. The worship service...
