Mackenze Braun, an Odessa High School senior, received the 2011 DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award at the annual chapter FFA Banquet on June 2. Odessa Elementary School students are invited to a Flashlight Reading Night on Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. in the school multi-purpose room. This will also be a kick-off event for the Summer Story Hour at the public library. Students are to bring parent(s) and siblings, a flashlight, books, a pillow or blanket, and they may even wear PJs and/or slippers if they wish. Last month the Odessa School District held student-led conferences for grades K-12. This was the first time student-led conferences have been done for all grade levels. In previous years conferences were held to talk about the students’ grades and how they were doing in their individual classes. Golf AFter the 1st round on Tuesday, May 24, defending champion Kira Powell was second place in the state 1B/2B tournament behind Brumfield of Rainier Christian by one stroke. Next week Thursday, May 19, is the date for the annual Mini Relay and Community BBQ in Wilson Creek. The community BBQ is open to all community members. Eleven Wilson Creek students sacrificed part of their spring break in April to participate in the annual FBLA State Business Leadership Conference in Spokane. The chapter was recognized as a Gold Seal Chapter, which requires completion of 10 out of 15 items on the qualifying sheet. Matt Cronrath scored the first Cougar win of the day for the WSU men’s track and field team, taking the 1500 meters with a personal-best time of 3:46.95 in the Husky dual meet held April 30 in Seattle. Harrington High teacher Mike Cronrath, the advisor to the Washington State Field, returned to the school to find his room re-decorated.
