Ella Scheller died October 20, 2012 in Odessa. She was born June 4, 1918 in Warden to John J. Laib, Jr. and Christina (Heizelman) Laib. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Christina Scheller of East Wenatchee, grandson Karl Scheller of Portland, Ore., one sister, Annette Gray of Vizalia, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews. I did not realize that in this election cycle, Washington voters will have two education-related initiatives to consider. One is Initiative 1185. In a nutshell, it requires a two-thirds majority of the legislature to increase taxes. Fire roared through two downtown buildings owned by the Odessa Union Warehouse Tuesday night, destroying them completely. Refurbishing of Schmidt Insurance Company’s building on First Avenue is now under way. The renovation includes mortar repair and cleaning of bricks, as well as the installation of a new awning. Doris (Jones) Amen passed away on October 6, 2012 in Carlsbad, Calif., at the age of 93. She was the daughter of Walter and Ethel (Piatt) Jones, born on February 3, 1919 on her Grandmother Jones' farm north of Dayton, Wash. She was the second of three girls raised by her parents on their wheat farm.
