The Odessa Chamber of Commerce met August 9 to discuss preparations for this year’s Fest. Themes for the next few years leading up to the 50th anniversary of the festival have been selected by the Chamber’s marketing committee. While on a trip to Butte, Mont., retired Odessa High School teacher and coach Ken Scherr was inducted to the Coaches Hall of Fame in the "Coaches Corner" of the Sports Bar and Grill in the Metals Bank. This award is presented to former Butte graduates who have gone on to become successful coaches at the high school and college levels. Scherr recognized many of the coaches, including a close personal friend, Steve Stosich, as well as his favorite teacher and coach, Huz Jensen....

Beginning in 2010, as part of the goal to provide health education for our community, the Odessa Healthcare Foundation began sponsoring a class called Babysitting Basics for youth ages 10-18 interested in improving their skills as a babysitter.
