  • Mail delivery disruptions

    Updated Jan 6, 2017

Late papers and missing papers were reported to The Record in large numbers the past two weeks. Especially hard hit were the communities of Ephrata and Moses Lake. We are not sure what happened to those errant newspapers. They left our premises on Wednesday afternoon of both weeks, in time for the mail truck to take them to their next destination. No names were removed from the database for late payment, since we ourselves have struggled to get our renewal notices out on time. We try our very best to provide ample notice to...

  • Editorial

    Updated Jan 6, 2017

Last week was one of those weeks. You know, the kind where you can’t do anything right. Not only did we not get all of our Christmas cards written, we also didn’t finish our Christmas shopping or baking or cleaning. And that’s not all. We also managed to spout off in these pages about a situation that we could have easily resolved by picking up the phone and making a simple call. Instead, we chose to criticize coaching decisions as part of an article on last week’s basketball games (not the proper place for editori...

  • No New Year's Eve party

    Updated Jan 6, 2017

The Odessa Chamber of Commerce has decided for a number of reasons to cancel its annual bash to ring in the new year. Some of those reasons include the fact that the holiday falls on a weekend, drawing more people away from town and off to larger venues elsewhere. Last year's event was also on a weekend, and the crowd was quite a bit smaller than it had been the previous year. At the December meeting of the Chamber, there was discussion of getting started earlier on the planning and execution of the event, coming up with new...

  • Online shopping scams increase during holidays

    Updated Jan 6, 2017

Spokane, Wash. – Dec. 15, 2016 – An Arkansas woman lost $450 to a fake seller on the Amazon Marketplace. Mary Catron knows she will not be able to get her money back, so she’s speaking out to make sure no one else gets taken by this scam. In October, Catron was shopping online when she placed an order for a rowing machine that was being sold through a private seller on Amazon. The machine typically runs for $900, but the seller was offering it for half the price. Unfortunately for Catron, the seller wasn’t legitim...
