  • Get back to normal, soon

    Updated May 21, 2020

Hospitals and clinics are now much better equipped and prepared with medication, antibody procedures and testing to help those infected with COVID-19. The warmer weather will slow down new infections. The severe restrictions - the four stages (guidelines) - need to be eased. Otherwise, there will be a lot more suicides and fatalities from frustration, depression, anger, road rage and shootings. Certainly, the sparsely populated areas (including most of Adams County) can move...

  • Ready for fresh salad season

    Laura Estes|Updated May 21, 2020

Salad season must be coming soon. The first day of summer is only a month away. Three-bean salad comes to mind, mostly because I have received a number of questions about cooking dry beans. Many families laid in a supply when the first directives to shelter at home came along. For many, cooking dry beans is a new experience. You can find dozens of cooking methods in cookbooks, internet recipe forums and on YouTube. Stovetop, slow-cooker and Instant-pot are just a few...

That was the day Mount St. Helens erupted. "It was pitch black," resident Mike Cronrath recalled. "If you put your hand in front of your face, you wouldn't have been able to see i...

1 years ago May 14, 1920 The Odessa vs. Davenport ball game [town team, not high school] broke up in a row in the seventh inning with Odessa leading 5-4. A questionable call was made by the Davenport umpire at home plate after a short fly ball that landed foul, and the Davenport player at third headed for home. Odessa team members and fans said the runner never touched the plate, but the ump ruled him safe. It was also claimed that the runner was off base at the time of the foul pop-up and never returned to tag the base....
