The Odessa Fire Department's equipment auction last Saturday, February 27, was a big draw, as rigs from near and far poured into town for the 9 a.m. start. Much of the farming equipment was from the estate of local farmer/rancher Mike Connolly, with additional items from the (Brian) Homberg Farms estate. The Odessa Food Bank will be filling its shelves with plenty of new items following last Saturday evening’s taco feed held at the Zion Emmanuel Lutheran Church. The holiday meals provided by the food bank late in the year tend to reduce its holdings, so the beginning of the new year finds the shelves getting rather empty. Dog licenses are required by an ordinance of the Town of Odessa. Each license is good for one year and is renewal each January. The purpose of the licensing fee is to help cover the cost of finding lost dogs or corraling loose dogs and returning them to their owners. The kennel for stray animals that belongs to the town has fallen into disrepair, and efforts to replace it are currently at a standstill.
