Strohmaier, Judge Criminal Sentencing Scott Wayne Gage, 45, of Spokane, pleaded guilty April 16 to theft of a motor vehicle in connection with the taking of a vehicle from Whitman County between Nov. 21 and 26 of last year that was located near Sprague. Gage was subsequently arrested in Cheney. As a result of plea negotiations, prosecutors withdrew a charge of second-degree theft in connection with the taking of a tractor battery owned by Lincoln County Public Works.   • Potluck season presents several serving options

    Lots of recipe requests came in from a recent community potluck meal. Kerry Scheller brought Mexican Corn Bread Salad to the event and she received many requests for the recipe and chose to share it here. The secret to this recipe, I believe, is corn bread muffins. They have more crust surface and this makes the salad more substantial, not soggy as some cornbread salads get when they sit for awhile.     The children of Carol Evavold (former long-time resident of Odessa) hosted a 99th birthday party at View Ridge Care Center in Moses Lake where Carol now resides.   • Tiger first-graders get most Butter Braid sales

    The Odessa School District PTO recently completed their annual Butter Braid fundraiser. The money earned from the sale of the Butter Braids goes toward helping the Odessa PTO shirts for every student and staff member at the Odessa School District. Second-grader and young entrepreneur Lucien Iksic sold 47 Butter Braids, which was more than any other student in the elementary school.   • Greenhouse management learned by OHS students

    Students in the Greenhouse Management class have been hard at work! Since the beginning of February, they have been responsible for daily operations and the needs of more than 2,000 plants. Students have learned how to properly sow tomato, jalapeño, peppers, marigold, basil and lemon grass seeds. They have learned how to propagate new plants from existing 'mother' plants and have successfully propagated geraniums, aloe vera, Christmas cactus, willow trees and philodendron.... Full story

    At 63 years old, Vaughn R. "Chip" Hunt passed away at home on December 22, 2019, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Ruth of 18 years (son Geno), brother Tag, sister Cheri, brothers Dale Hunt and Eddie, his daughters Nicole of Moses Lake (grandson Eddie and granddaughters Emelea and Eloise) and Lindsey of East Wenatchee (grandson Jayden).     To the Editor: Just a warning, Spring is here, and yard cleanup after winter is underway. Those with pets should be aware. Ours are like our children, and I try to protect them as such. Most of the products we spray to kill the unwanted weeds and grasses are toxic to our pets! Most all dogs and cats eat weeds and grasses for one reason or another.     Danielle Tebow of Odessa has made the honor roll at Spokane Community College. Danielle was one of 2,220 students on the winter 2019 honor roll at Spokane Community College. The quarter ended in March. The majority of those students, 1,350, made the President’s Honor Roll with a grade point average of 3.5 or above, and another 870 students were named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll with a GPA of at least 3.0.     Delores Cook, aged 91, passed away on April 14, 2019 in Odessa. Delores was born January 25, 1928 to Gus and Ida Schorzman in Spokane and was raised on a farm near Marlin. She went to a one-room country school near her farm and to high school in Marlin. After completing Kinman Business School in Spokane she went to work at a law firm in Odessa. There she met her husband Delbert Cook, and they were the second couple to be married in the United Congregational Church in 1949.... Full story
