George and Dorothy (Hopp) Gies, both descendants of Odessa pioneer families, were longtime farmers in the Odessa and Columbia Basin areas, retiring in 1990. The Marlin and Odessa Gun Clubs participate in trap shooting from their respective locations but combine their scores to form one team that is entered into the competition. Winter isn’t giving up easy this year. Soup season may last through April, and a good thing. A number of Facebook “Welcome to My Kitchen” followers shared yummy soup recipes, and I will never get to try them all before printing in a timely manner. Helen Marie Winter passed away peacefully on February 7, 2019, at the Odessa Nursing Home, Odessa, Washington. Helen and her twin sister, Hazel were born October 21, 1926, to Henry and Susan Baumgart. Helen was raised in Lind and graduated from Lind High School.
