VBS will be held at Christ Lutheran Church next week for children from four years of age to those who have just completed eighth grade. Daily sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Monday, June 20, and ending Friday, June 24. VBS is a community-wide offering for children of all faiths. Odessa churches, under the auspices of the Odessa Ministerial Association, rotate the location to different churches each year, or sometimes split up the age groups among the different churches participating. When the Frederick family gathered recently for the funeral of their wife, mother, grandmother Vi Frederick, and again soon after for the Memorial Day holiday, they began comparing notes about how long various members had served in the U.S. military. Kendall Fisher of Odessa qualified for the Pepperdine University Dean's List for the spring 2011 semester. Women’s modified fast-pitch softball tournament will be held Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19 at Finney Field. The tournament begins Saturday at 9 a.m., with play lasting until 7:15 p.m. On Sunday, play will start at 10 a.m. and end around 3:45 p.m. The league has grown to nine teams this year, after being down to only four teams two years ago. Thursday, June 2, sentence was imposed on Odessa native Steve Finkbeiner by District Court Judge Josh Grant. Finkbeiner opted to plead guilty to three counts of third-degree theft, which led to the cancellation of the jury trial originally set for May 18. What is wrong with this picture? The State of Washington loaned the PDA (Public Development Authority) $1.4 million dollars to build the Creston Bio Energy Plant. The operator left and the PDA was not able to keep up on the payments. The PDA then turns the project back over to the State of Washington. The state then sells the property for $213,000 to a private party. What a poor investment for the taxpayers. We spend $1.4 million on a plant only worth $213,000. How did this happen?
