It’s time the state does the same. The wolf population in the region is significant enough to be stable and treating the a...

  • 11-pound wiener dog vs. 14-pound turkey

    Olivia Harnack, The Record-Times|Updated Nov 20, 2025

I always thought Thanksgiving was supposed to be cozy, heartwarming, and vaguely magical. This week, I officially embarked on my first at-home Thanksgiving in my very own tiny house. Just me, the turkey, and enough sides to feed a small army — or at least seven or eight humans who may or may not comfortably fit in my living room. I...

  • Welcome to my Kitchen

    Laura Estes, The Record-Times|Updated Nov 20, 2025

Thanksgiving menus are being planned in many Inland Northwest homes, Turkey, ham, prime rib roast may be the center piece of the meal but the memories are often in the side dishes. For many, the best part is the dressing or stuffing. Traditional, cornbread or even a vegetable stuffing, flavor a turkey or fill a casserole dish on the side for ham and roasts. Corn bread stuffing can be purchased as a mix, but fresh corn bread is far superior, in achieving a savory dressing. Corn bread absorbs lots of liquid, and fresh...

As working families, elders and disabled folks worried about how they would eat if SNAP benefits were not issued in Novembe, Repr. Michael Baumgartner posted about his staff volunteering at Second Harvest. While volunteering is lovely, that’s not what we need from our elected representatives, not when they hold the power to either strengthen or dismantle the social safety net. Volunteering at and donating to food banks, filling little free pantries, spotting neighbors grocery money, hosting community meals — that is what goo...

  • Poland, U.S. heading opposite ways

    Don C. Brunell, The Record-Times|Updated Nov 20, 2025

“The U.S. market-based economic system where people, not government, decide what is produce and marketed is still the world’s “beacon of hope!” Poland and the United States are like two trains passing each other heading in opposite directions. Poland embraced our market-based economic system while America is drifting toward socialism and more government control which tend to stifle job growth, business opportunities, and prosperity.
