REARDAN-The school district has a laundry list of capital improvements it hopes to complete in the next five years, most of which surround the athletic facilities slipping in quality behind many other area schools. Those improvements cost money, so the school board approved a motion to run a capital levy in this year's November general election at the board's July 27 meeting. The five-year levy, which comes on top of a three-year levy passed by voters in Feb. 2021, would...

DAVENPORT--The oft-controversial firework bans of 2021 enacted by many local municipalities due to heavy drought conditions aren’t due for a repeat in 2022. I see that we are selecting a new Lincoln County sheriff this next election cycle. I question why is this a partisan race? Why are electing a sheriff who is a Democrat or a Republican? When my son was growing up he noticed the republican sheriff. He wondered if you were Republican did you not get speeding tickets? Let's elect the best person to do the job and not worry about what party they belong to. We need to question the candidate's long term plan for the department. Do we need more road patrol deputies or more staff? We...

REARDAN-The school district's nine-month period of being mascot-less, or "just Reardan," as many locals refer to it, is over. The school board approved a motion to make the "Screaming Eagles" the new mascot by a 3-1 vote at the board's meeting Wednesday, April 27. The district was forced to change its mascot from the "Indians" following the passage of House Bill 1356 in 2021, which banned the use of Native American mascots or logos by public schools in Washington. The moniker...
