The team's previous three losses all came over nonleague opponents. Davenport, meanwhile, fell to 1-5 after earnin...
DAVENPORT—The Lincoln County Commissioners approved two resolutions aimed at applying for a broadband construction project with the Public Works Board. The application would request federal funding on a non-matching basis for fiber broadband in Odessa, Harrington, Reardan and possibly the Hawk Creek area. Those resolutions were approved at the commissioner’s Sept. 20 meeting. Commissioner Scott Hutsell said the board doesn’t know yet how much the application will be requesting in grant funding, as county partner Petrichor is...

ODESSA – The 50th anniversary of the Odessa Deutschesfest finally became a reality last week. Not even the rain sprinkles that fell sporadically all day Saturday could put a damper on the crowds who devoured much of the food available and visited various vendors at the Street Fair, in addition to participating in the various activities of the Fest. On Thursday evening things got off to a good start with the chalk-drawing contest. The contest's former sponsor declined to p...

For the entire year, the Columbia Basin Development League has been pushing to ensure the White House infrastructure plan would include water infrastructure for agriculture. Drinking water infrastructure was a given, but funding for aging reservoirs, dams, canals, and pipes that deliver irrigation for crops was more elusive. So was funding for new infrastructure desperately needed by the Odessa Ground Water Replacement Program (OGWRP) that will replace water coming from a declining aquifer with reliable Columbia Basin...

Deutschesfest 2021 is in the books. As I write this column on Monday morning, cleanup is in full swing and you can hardly tell there was a festival here the last four days. I have been receiving requests for recipes of items at the German Bake Sale, and the new item, Dill Pickle Soup, served in the Bier Garten. I will be looking into what recipe they kitchen crew used but meanwhile, Zupa Ogorkowa: Polish Creamy Dill Soup, is the recipe I use. Pickle soup is widely used in...

ODESSA – Work on the Old Town Hall continued even as preparations for Deutschesfest were underway last week. Perhaps it was to be expected that a 100-year-old building would throw many obstacles into the path of those trying to update it. Removal of the carpeting revealed a gaping hole in the floor of the south room, meaning that vendors would not be able to use the space during Fest. The Odessa Historical Society and the Old Town Hall Rejuvenation Society had been hoping t...

By Drew Lawson The Times DAVENPORT – Labor Day 2020 was a day that will live in infamy throughout the Pacific Northwest, as several fires ignited that fateful Sept. 7 and caused damage across Washington and Oregon. Lincoln County was no different, as one of the largest fires in state history began around 10:35 a.m. and blazed through over 127,000 acres of land-over 10% of the acreage in the whole county-in its destructive path from Hawk Creek southwest through Telford t...

Throughout the day, the participating teams played each of the others in three-set matches rather than the usual five. ODESSA – Odessa’s 50th annual Deutschesfest, celebrating the ethnic Volga-German heritage of many of the town’s earliest homesteaders, is scheduled for next week. The Deutschesfest supplement to The Odessa Record, which normally is published the week prior to the festival (or this week), is being postponed until next week due to numerous circumstances, some beyond our control, some not. As the Fest approaches, last-minute changes and frantic preparations are still underway. Communication is often inadequate or lacking altog...

Reardan got the upper hand in the first set, jumping out to a 6-3 lead. Apples, zucchini and back to school snacks. How can we combine the bounty of early fall with the need for afterschool snacks? Granola is a favorite of many and may include dried apples and other dried fruits. I recently tried a recipe for Slow Toasted Granola made in a slow cooker. Applesauce is included in the granola coating. The recipe comes from the Better Homes and Gardens recipe site. Slow Toasted Granola 1/2 cup honey 1/2 cup applesauce 1/4 cup canola oil 1/4 cup...

The students want to complete the entire project now and restore the south room to a pristine condition. However, the remaining three walls in the south room need a serio...
