No final figures have as yet been submitted to The Record, but our view from being at various venues was that lots of people came and all appeared to be having a good time. The book sale that benefits the Odessa Public Library made its largest profit ever. Nate Lathrop of Rolling Thunder Pizza and sponsor of Saturday's all-ages dance and Sunday's motorcycle show called it "the best Fest ever!" A description of...

Saturday, September 16, was a beautiful day with the sun shining, a slight breeze in the air which made for a nearly perfect temperature all day. Hosted by Tammy Carlson Tokas and with both adult and youth divisions, she allowed sign-ups until the very last possible minute. Nate Lathrop, 51, opened the show with an interesting array of...

Historical Sketch of Harrington’s Business District in 1899 With Harrington beginning to develop new businesses, it might be interesting to our readers to view the vast number of businesses thriving here more than a hundred years ago. The town had suffered a major fire in 1894 and the affected businesses rebuilt as quickly as supplies were brought to town. One can hope that if a well developed business district is created once again that the community at large would support them. One might take issue with the writer’s est...

  • Correction

    Updated Sep 14, 2017

In last week's Deutschesfest supplement to The Record, we spelled the name of Biergarten chair Tami Smith incorrectly. She is also serving this year for the third time, not the second, and her co-chair (not vice chair) in Lindsy Starkel. Also problematical in the supplement, Laura Estes reports in her Welcome to My Kitchen column (see page 3), is the apple strudel recipe we ran. She graciously sent us the recipe used by the Odessa Christ Lutheran Church for those of our readers who might like to try making it at...
