1 years ago May 14, 1920 The Odessa vs. Davenport ball game [town team, not high school] broke up in a row in the seventh inning with Odessa leading 5-4. A questionable call was made by the Davenport umpire at home plate after a short fly ball that landed foul, and the Davenport player at third headed for home. Odessa team members and fans said the runner never touched the plate, but the ump ruled him safe. Becker was arrested and brought before Justice Schoonover Tuesday on the charge of violating the compulsory law that provides that all children under the age of 15 shall attend school regularly. ODESSA — The town has been awarded a $1.3 million grant to make critical water infrastructure improvements. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced the agency’s Economic Development Administration grant last week. ODESSA — The Town Council is studying creation of a Park District as a means to cover swimming pool costs. The council met digitally Monday, April 27, to discuss the pool and other issues. The cost of maintaining the pool, paying for lifeguards and covering all the other costs related to the pool has reached the $70,000 annually, according to Town Clerk Denise Snead. ODESSA - Rick and Marilyn Smith and their extended family gathered last weekend for their annual day of branding, tagging and inoculating new calves. Earlier this year, 65 calves were born on their rangeland north of town. Three generations worked together to round up, corral and process the newest members of the herd. ODESSA — The Odessa High School Alumni Association has canceled this year’s June 20 alumni reunion dinner due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
