    ALMIRA – Last week Tuesday, Oct. 12, the Almira school building that normally housed elementary grades 1 through 5 and ACH Middle School grades 6, 7 and 8 caught fire and burned to the ground in a raging conflagration.     DAVENPORT—The city council’s finance committee met ahead of council’s Oct. 13 meeting to discuss the third quarter budget and look ahead to the 2022 budget as the annual budget cycle approaches. The city brought in $2,628,095 in the third financial quarter (June-Sept.), which was 96% of what was budgeted. The city spent just $2,287,688 of its $3,452,495 expenditures budget that quarter.     DAVENPORT—Another round of negotiations between Lincoln County and Teamsters 690, which represents the Sheriff’s Office’s commissioned and non-commissioned officers, sparked a discussion concerning compensation for the non-commissioned jail and dispatch staff.     DAVENPORT—The Washington Election Integrity Coalition United (WEICU) and Jerry Schulz of Reardan filed a “first amended verified complaint for equal protection” and demanded a jury trial in its latest filing in a lawsuit against the Lincoln County Auditor’s Office and auditor Chandra Schumacher.
