    Olivia Harnack, The Record-Times|Updated Oct 30, 2025

DAVENPORT — With the Mohler Road project wrapped up, Lincoln County public works crews are turning their focus toward upcoming construction and winter preparation, according to Public Works Director Dave Orvis. “The Mohler project is pretty much wrapped up and finished,” Orvis said. “There are a couple of things to button up, but the road is all done. It turned out nice, and we didn’t run into any hiccups. That structure that was taken out had weight restrictions, and now we don’t have those anymore.” Next on the county’s...

  • Beef prices don't need to be fixed

Pam Lewison, Washington Policy Center|Updated Oct 30, 2025

Trying to "fix" the cost of beef is anti-agriculture and anti-free market. President Trump recently suggested the U.S. would purchase beef from Argentina to flood the American market and drive the cost of U.S. beef down. That plan is absurd. The comments came over the weekend while the president was flying from Florida to Washington D.C., according to several media reports. The plan to drive down the cost of American beef prices by purchasing Argentinian beef and dropping it...

According to Rachael Feukes, 25, a meteorologist based in Spokane, there’s a 40–50% chance of showers between 5–11 p.m. Thursday, October 31. “We have a system moving in,” Feukes said. “The good news is it does look like it will be a really light rain during that time. Kids shouldn’t be caught in any downpours.” Daytime highs are expe...

Upthegrove should fulfill forest protection promise Public Lands Commissioner Dave Upthegrove was elected on a promise to permanently protect 77,000 acres of legacy forest. Yet, his Day 1 action was only a temporary pause, not a true moratorium. Last month, when he held a press conference to announce “permanent protection” of those 77,000 acres, the map told a different story. It was riddled with mistakes — protecting only part of the promised acreage while putting 29,000 acres, including some of the most ecologically valua...

  • Out of County, over-caffeinated, and focus-pocus

    Olivia Harnack|Updated Oct 30, 2025

This past weekend, I was a little out of county — okay, fine, completely out of county — headed to Moses Lake to cover a wedding. My second full wedding shoot ever, and let me tell you, I’m still finding glitter, bobby pins, and soggy lens wipes in my backpack. The rain across Eastern Washington didn’t ruin anything — it somehow made the photos even dreamier. I fueled myself on what may have been too much coffee while editing over 400 photos in two days — my fastest tur...

    Derek Bilodeaux, The Record-Times|Updated Oct 30, 2025

As your newest voice in the sports section, I’ll let you in on a little secret: I’m not just scribbling from the press box. I’m living it. Five kids call me Dad, and three of them are suiting up in uniforms this fall. The youngest, a kindergartener with pigtails and boundless energy, just hung up her flags for the season. The older two are grinding under Friday night lights at Davenport High. And me? I’m the guy wiping turf off scraped knees one minute and chasing deadlin...
