HARRINGTON – The school district has received a $3.25 million state grant for building repairs and upgrades, according to Superintendent Wayne Massie. The Odessa Tiger football team completed their second consecutive unbeaten season to retain the 1B traveling trophy. For the senior boys especially, it was the culmination of an unbroken string of victories that had them pumped up for every game despite knowing that the eight-man, small-school league offered them very little real competition. The Odessa School District and its Ag Shop have received a $16,879.33 grant from the Washington FFA Foundation. Odessa agriculture teacher HaLee Walter and school Superintendent Dan Read applied for the WaFFA Foundation grant in hopes of being able to replace older shop equipment. The grant was available to CASE-certified teachers who currently teach or will teach CASE courses. Brayton Schafer of Almira-Coulee-Hartline High School was named the WIAA Athlete of the Week last week for 1B football. Schafer led the Warriors to a 66-0 first round playoff win over Bridgeport. The senior running back scored six touchdowns in the game, with four of them on the ground and two of them receiving. He also added nine tackles from the middle linebacker position on defense. Team Wilbur, consisting of Wyatt Corrigan, Lance Berkey, Brenden Hill, Tristyn Struve, Maddie Thrams and Sydney Schmierer were the winners of the 10th Annual Bi-County STEM Challenge and took the illustrious Golden Flask Award away from last year’s winners, Team Odessa.
