  • Leave it to fleas: One ruff vacation

    Olivia Harnack, The Record-Times|Updated Oct 23, 2025

Well, folks, I did it. I finally took a vacation day. Singular. One day. And I used it to go visit my family on the west side - my brother, sister-in-law, nephew, stepdad and mom. You know, the usual suspects. It wasn't too wild of a trip: stop in Lacey - check. Stop in Tacoma - check. Fresh seafood - check, check, check. I'm sorry, but when you've spent enough time eating "crab" that's actually just dyed perch, you develop a moral obligation to find the real thing. But this...

    Updated Oct 23, 2025

Baumgartner is on wrong side of shutdown Rep. Mike Baumgartner’s current radio ads dissing the shutdown miss the point entirely (on purpose). The shutdown has occurred because Democrats are standing up for the rights of Americans. Terms of the current federal budget call for massive health care cuts, massive tax benefits for millionaires and billionaires, pitiful tax benefits for middle-income citizens, and zero tax benefits for low-income people. Mr. Baumgartner voted for this horrible budget, against the best outcomes f...

  • From the Desk of the Chief

With the haunted howls of Halloween looming, it’s time to talk about safety. Even if you are dressed as the invisible man make sure your costume is well lit and you are carrying a flashlight while trick r treating. Use ghostly caution while crossing the street and make sure to look both ways! Use the buddy system and don’t go out alone. Never go inside a stranger’s house especially if it’s haunted. Check candy at the end of the night, removing all candy corn because honestly, it just tastes bad, and nobody likes it. Hope ev...

These activists claim President Donald Trump - who won both the Electoral College and the popular vote in the 2024 election - is destined to rule like a dictator. They warn that American democracy will crumble under the weight of the "evil orange man's" ego. They rail against "authoritarianism" and...
