The eagle eye of the Yakama Nation Eagles wasn't enough to spot the attack of the Odessa Tigers on Friday October 26 at Finney Field in Odessa. The Odessa Athletic Booster Club dinner and auction held last Saturday, October 27, at the Odessa Community Center raised over $25,000 for Tiger athletics. The community center was decorated in a black and white Tiger theme. Even the dessert bar, where community members outdid themselves baking and purchasing sports-themed desserts for attendees to enjoy followed the same theme. STAFF REPORTS The 48th annual Deutschesfest has come and gone. By early Monday afternoon, you would not know that a festival had taken place over the weekend. The Odessa public works crew, employees of the Odessa Trading Company and volunteers from various businesses and civic organizations were johnny-on-the-spot to return the town to its hard-working normal routine. Playing in Spokane, the Odessa Tiger girls’ volleyball team won its conference match against Valley Christian High School on September 8 by three games to one. Odessa 25 23 25 26 3 VC 22 25 23 24 1 McKennah Davison and Maddy Wagner led the team in kills with 18 and 16, respectively. Wagner had 14 digs, and Natosha Boss had 13. Donald F. Burghard passed away August 31, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake surrounded by his family. He was born February 26, 1931 to Fred and Lilly Burghard of Ritzville, Wash. He graduated from Ritzville High School in 1949. Following closure of U & I sugar-beet processing factory, he received his AA degree from Spokane Community College. He married Lorraine Seibel on November 2, 1951. Together they raised five children. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in November... Full story
Edward Lewis Crosby III died September 4, 2018 at his home in Odessa due to complications from diabetes. He was 68 years old. Ed was born November 27, 1949 in Baltimore, Md., the oldest child of Edward L. Crosby, Jr. and Margaret (Peggy) Strawbridge Crosby. His first five years were spent in Baltimore, after which the family moved to South Bend, Ind. and then, when young Ed was 10, to Sarasota, Fla. Burning Man Saturday, August 25, a Harrington resident and her sister departed Harrington in a well-laden automobile with gear, supplies and camping equipment strapped to the top, and a sign on the rear reading "The Kettles Go to Burning Man." The town council met August 27 in the public library to hear from Steve Nelson of Century West Engineering on the status of various projects dealing with streets and water/sewer infrastructure. He said that the town should hear within two weeks about whether the town’s request for a Community Development Block Grant of $750,000 would be met.
